Starbucks Verismo vs Nespresso

While Starbucks officially discontinued its Verismo coffee machine in December 2020 to now focus on making compatible pods for Nespresso machines, there are not only still plenty of Verismo capsules available online but it also means the price tag of the Verismo machine has dropped to an all-time low.

VERISMO MODEL

Featuring a large water tank, Starbucks Verismo coffee maker was designed to provide you with Starbucks flavor from the comfort of your home so you don’t have to go to the coffee shop. Using exclusively Starbucks verismo pods, it allows to make all kinds of drinks including different flavors of espresso shots. For those who are not into coffee, the machine also accepts tea and milk pods. Get Starbucks Verismo here.

NESPRESSO MODEL

Nespresso models available are Original for espresso and Vertuo for bigger cups. Contrary to the Starbucks coffee maker, it works not only with Nespresso pods but also a wide variety of compatible coffee brands from Peet’s Coffee to Trader Joe’s, Illy, L’Or, Carte Noire and of course Starbucks pods. This means you get access to a more diverse range of flavors and different types of coffee. Nespresso machines are easy to use, affordable and the more advanced models come with a separate milk frother located on the other side of the water reservoir. They are different models for all budgets starting under $70 and up to around $500 – think high tech with stylish design.

New Nespresso capsules are getting released pretty regularly including limited editions and the average price for a box of 10 pods is around $8 – check out our Best Nespresso Capsules guide.

FINAL DECISION

As a long time owner of Nespresso coffee machines, starting with the Cube which was the first model released in the United States in early 2000, I can tell you that it’s hard to beat the Swiss company when it comes to delivering a great cup of coffee. With recycling being important nowadays, we also like the fact that it works with reusable capsules which can be filled with your favorite ground coffee.

If you are a coffee lover looking for authentic espresso, the Nespresso brewing machine is without a doubt a better espresso maker than the Starbucks Verismo system. And, in case you were wondering about different options on the market today, the Nespresso system is also a better machine than Keurig coffee makers, among others.
