Nespresso’s Galápagos Santa Cruz review: capsule and coffee cup

>> Limited Edition 2018

Galápagos Santa Cruz is an Explorations 2018 Limited Edition espresso made from 100% Arabica beans from Santa Cruz, Galapagos islands.

GALAPAGOS SANTA CRUZ CAPSULE REVIEW

Upon first impression, Galapagos Santa Cruz delivers a rough, dark experience featuring a strong and sour roasted flavor that lasts for a while.

With a high price of $2 per capsule – the most expensive Nespresso capsule as far as I can remember – this very limited edition isn’t positioned as a crowd-pleaser whether it’s in terms of flavor or price. That said, it slowly grew on me and it should certainly satisfy fans of authentic espressos as it is reminiscent of what you can drink in cafes on the old continent.

As to answer those who’ve been asking me if it is worth shelling out $20 for a single box of 10 capsules, I’m suggesting skipping that one, unless you’re a Nespresso completist.

COFFEE PAIRING

Galápagos Santa Cruz Nespresso capsule box

Nespresso’s Galápagos Santa Cruz coffee capsule box

  • Activities: Because it’s so pricey and exclusive, keep it for special occasions.
  • Music: I just happened to receive Third Man Records release of the hard to find and cryptic Captain Beefheart’s Trout Mask which feels like a good fit for that one.
  • Food: It’s such a rare capsule that you should enjoy it for itself, without any food pairing.

PACKAGING

Nespresso’s Galápagos Santa Cruz comes in a blue rectangle box which opens in the middle and features flowery psychedelic designs.

It includes 10 dirty white capsules showcasing similar patterns.
